Podcast review: Geek Fu Action Grip
I listen to podcasts; A lot. 5 hours listening a day is pretty common so I thought I'd do the occasional review of them on here. Just short stuff, no long rants, nope, not the one. Not only will this help me with content to blog about, it should also help me recall that I've subscribed to a particular podcast in the past. I often find myself browsing the iTunes podcast list and subscribing to things which come across as interesting only to find that they are something I've heard before, that it was crap the first time round and that it's still crap.
Geek Fu Action Grip
Description: Reviews, essays, and rants from a gamer, fangirl, writer and mommy, all in one.
Host: Mur Lafferty
Just a single person talking in this podcast which normally turns me right off but Mur's voice is really quite pleasant. One thing that does annoy me is that she always sounds like she's reading off a page. Now sometimes she actually is; reading some of her recent literary work for example; but she sounds this way all the time and it really goes get a tad monotonous.
So far: Only one voice = bad. Pleasant voice = good. Reading voice = bad.
Nice short episodes. I like this. Twenty to Thirty minutes and you're done. I wish more podcasts stuck to a this shorter format. YMMV.
This podcast has an [Explicit] tag in the iTunes directory listing but it's hardly deserved. I guess Apple is catering to their prissy American market who insist that people use the phrase "Oh heck" instead of "Oh hell" or "Oh shit fuck piss stain goat fucker!". Anyway, not a whole lot of swearing going on here despite what the tag may imply.
Mur comes across as more of a nerd than a geek to me so a lot of stuff she talks about I really don't care about; RPGs, comics, etc; and since her essay readings aren't my cup of coffee either, I think this is a podcast I'll remove from my iTunes list after all. There is some interesting stuff in there but even with a short format show, I'm too fussy to listen through the boring bits and too lazy to fast forward through them.
Sidenote: I find it amusing that blogger.com's spell check doesn't recognize the word "blog". Mind you, it didn't recognise the words "fuck" and "fucker" either.
