Podcast review: Digital Photography Tips From The Top Floor

Tips From The Top Floor
Description: Short and sweet - with non-techy tips that you can put to use immediately. This award winning show covers everything from image composition to post processing. No matter if you use a digital point-and-shoot or an expensive digital SLR. With a good sense of humor, Chris Marquardt manages to convey tips for the beginner as well as the professional photographer.
Host: Chris Marquardt (occasionally with a guest)
Could this presenter be any more upbeat about his subject. Yeah he obviously loves photography and is really happy with how well his podcast is doing, but really can we get a little something else besides "I'm blown away with all the support I've gotten from the listeners"? Every episode, same thing. Ok, rant over.
I can recommend Tips From The Top Floor if you're at all interested in digital photography, even if the host does get a tad annoying at times. Each week he speaks on something related to photography. From image composition, to getting your shots printed. There are even some assignments (podcasts with homework - there's a novel idea) for the truly keen photobug that wants feedback on how well they are progressing. A competition or two is another reason to listen and submit your photos. Which remind me that I should try and find something to submit for the "motion" assignment before time run out. At least for this one I have until the end of the month to shoot some images. Something tells me that procrastination will win out in the end and I'll once again have nothing submitted. Are there prizes for this? I don't think so. He did have a self portrait competition a little while ago - the winner got an iPod shuffle. I think it must be a podcast rule that if you have a competition, the prize has to be a t-shirt from Split Reason or an iPod shuffle.
I've listened to couple of dozen shows now and have learnt the odd thing or two. It's the kind of show where I'm often thinking "I should try that out" but then never actually get round to following through. If you're a bit more of the determined type than me, you'd perhaps get more out of this show.
Even though the host isn't a professional photographer, the show does come across professionally produced. Give it a try.
